Fat Transfer - Lipoplasty

Lipoplasty is removing your own body fat from one area of your body and transferring it to other areas, to remodel or enhance your appearance. The benefit of this procedure is that there is no rejection of the transplanted fat and the recovery is very rapid. Extra fat is removed and frozen for future top ups.

The objective of this surgery is not to remove excess weight, but to improve the contour of the body.

The most common areas for Lipoplasty are:

Face

The common signs of aging- sagging, wrinkling skin and deepening facial lines- can be halted and even reversed by the relatively simple and safe transfer of your own fat from an area of your body to your face. Even small quantities of transplanted fat can produce dramatic age reversing effects.

Breasts

Many women lose large amounts of breast fat after breast-feeding, dieting, illness and ageing. This lost fat can be replaced with your own body fat harvested by 'liposuction'.

Large volume fat transfer to breasts can also be combined with Liposculpture to other areas. This fantastic procedure allows the woman to choose the shape and size of her breasts whilst still retaining their natural feel.

This form of breast enhancement is suitable for most women; however those looking at falling pregnant may not be suitable for this procedure.

Hands

Another sign of ageing is loss of fat from the back of the hands. Lipoplasty can easily and safely replace this loss of fat to give younger looking hands.

The Fat Harvesting (Liposuction) and the Fat transfer (Lipoplasty) procedure is performed on a walk in/ walk out basis, under local anaesthetic.

There is initial swelling which usually subsides within 48 hours. Minor bruising may occur but also subsides rapidly.

The month following the transfer you will see a loss of about 30% of the transplanted fat. 'Top ups' are not usually done under 3 months unless fat absorption is considered to be excessive.

At the time of harvesting the fat, enough fat is taken to allow for 2-3 top ups. The extra fat is stored frozen and can keep for 6-12 months.

Complications are very rare and will be explained by Dr. Goldbaum during the consultation.
